There is no Knowledge of the Future
The concept of “knowledge of the future” is an oxymoron because the future is inherently unknowable. Despite our best efforts to identify patterns and predict outcomes, the randomness of future events often defies expectations. A decade ago, many experts forecasted lower returns based on seemingly high valuations and recent performance, but the actual returns significantly exceeded those predictions. This highlights a crucial lesson: no one can truly predict the future. Instead of trying to guess what will happen, the best approach is to plan for a range of possible outcomes and stay committed to your plan. This prudent strategy helps manage risk and avoids the pitfalls of relying on uncertain forecasts.
